Sumitomo Forklift

Sustainability

Message from the Presidentメッセージ

President and CEO: Mikio Nishihama

Sumitomo NACCO Forklift is based on the Sumitomo business spirit of valuing trust.
Hyster-Yale Group, one of the world's largest and oldest forklift manufacturers in the United States,
By continuing to cooperate and integrating manufacturing, sales and services, we continue to grow together with our customers as a reliable partner in the logistics industry.

In recent times, against the backdrop of global environmental issues, serious labor shortages, and compliance issues,
There is growing recognition of the role that companies must play in realizing a sustainable society.
Up until now, our mission has been to work closely with our customers' logistics sites and provide them with high-value products, services, and information. However, going forward, we believe that we must also fulfill our social responsibilities as a company by providing solutions that focus on resolving social issues.

Therefore, as the role that we must play, we have identified six material issues based on the "material issues for value creation" and "material fundamental issues" defined by the Sumitomo Heavy Industries Group.
Furthermore, for each of the identified priority issues, we decided on specific tasks to be addressed and set medium- to long-term targets.

With our new brand message for 2023, "Lift up as ONE" - together to reach greater heights, together to the future - as our motto, customers, dealers, and factories will work together to solve problems and strive to contribute to the development of a sustainable, recycling-oriented society together with our customers and other stakeholders.
We appreciate your continued understanding and support.

PresidentMikio Nishihama

Coexistence with the local community

We believe that contributing to local communities and the spirit of coexistence and mutual prosperity are essential for the sustainable growth of both the local community and our group.
Local elementary school students are given the opportunity to learn about the fascinating world of manufacturing and the social contributions that industrial vehicles can make by observing the forklift manufacturing process, test runs, and inspections.

Factory tour for local elementary school students

In response to the elementary school's objectives of "developing an interest in and deepening understanding of the industries in the school district" and "learning about the people who work in factories," we have been accepting third-grade students on factory tours every year since 2012. The students are given the opportunity to see the assembly process inside the factory, which they would not normally be able to see, and to see a demonstration of an actual forklift, allowing them to experience manufacturing first-hand.

Participating in the local industrial and cultural festival

In order to raise awareness among the local community, we always exhibit at the Nagoya Works area as the "Sumitomo Heavy Industries Group." In addition to exhibiting panels and models, we also prepare capsule boxes and target shooting games for children, which everyone can enjoy.
