Based on Sumitomo's business philosophy and our management philosophy, Sumitomo NACCO will manage its business with a focus on both improving social value and corporate value in order to realize a sustainable society. This is our basic sustainability policy.
Strengths of a machine (forklift) manufacturer
Issues to contribute to society through utilizing
We have set important issues regarding energy efficiency and the reduction of environmental burdens both in production activities and during product use, as well as the productivity and safety of forklift operators and other people involved in the logistics industry.
Contribution as a member of society
We value the safety, health, and job satisfaction of our employees, and by maintaining and improving compliance with laws and regulations and product quality, we have set various important issues to continue contributing to society, including the local community.
As a forklift manufacturer, the Sumitomo NACCO Group recognizes the importance of reducing the environmental impact.
1) During our own operations, such as manufacturing processes
②When our customers use our products
In order to prevent environmental destruction, we have established management systems at our factories and sales companies.
Our Projects
Our company has established an environmental management system for the manufacture and sale of forklifts and logistics equipment, and has set environmental objectives and targets within the scope of technical and economic feasibility, aiming to continuously improve the company-wide environmental management system through a PDCA cycle of Plan, Do, Check, Review and Improve. Performance is also to be reported to the president.
Sumitomo NACCO Group, a forklift manufacturer, contributes to reducing the workload of customers, reducing operating hours, and improving safety through the automation and digitalization of its products. Through its products and services, it contributes to improving the labor productivity and working environment of its customers, while also strengthening the competitiveness of its products. Ensuring the safety of workers who operate forklifts is also an important issue for customers. Sumitomo NACCO Forklift Sales Co., Ltd. will work to solve this issue through safety training activities for customers.
In order to use forklifts correctly and safely, regular safety awareness training is necessary for operators and managers. We provide programs (classroom training) for our customers to improve forklift knowledge and safety awareness for all employees, including operators. We also provide practical training tailored to the customer's work environment and model of equipment. Our company also aims to achieve zero forklift accidents from an educational perspective.
For the Sumitomo NACCO Group to keep up with the changing times and continue to provide products and services that society needs, human resource utilization is a very important theme. "Business is people." This phrase is one of the fundamental ideas of the Sumitomo Group. In addition, we believe that employee health management is the key to the sustainable growth of our group from a management perspective, and we put it into practice strategically while also working to achieve zero accidents and create a workplace that is healthy both physically and mentally. In our diversity promotion activities, we are focusing on creating a workplace where diverse human resources can thrive by promoting the active participation of women and work-life balance.
We consider employee training to be an important issue. We have established a system for employee training by setting up educational programs for new recruits and each generation according to their job type. We are also systematically improving the infrastructure facilities necessary for education.
As an example, Sumitomo NACCO Forklift Sales Co., Ltd. trains employees at training centers in each area so that they can provide high-quality service.
We are committed to promoting activities to achieve zero workplace accidents and to continually improve occupational safety and health under the philosophy that all workers should act with safety as a priority and work in cooperation with management to create a comfortable workplace where they can work safely and healthily, based on a spirit of respect for human life.

We believe that contributing to local communities and the spirit of coexistence and mutual prosperity are essential for the sustainable growth of both the local community and our group.
Local elementary school students are given the opportunity to learn about the fascinating world of manufacturing and the social contributions that industrial vehicles can make by observing the forklift manufacturing process, test runs, and inspections.
In response to the elementary school's objectives of "developing an interest in and deepening understanding of the industries in the school district" and "learning about the people who work in factories," we have been accepting third-grade students on factory tours every year since 2012. The students are given the opportunity to see the assembly process inside the factory, which they would not normally be able to see, and to see a demonstration of an actual forklift, allowing them to experience manufacturing first-hand.
In order to raise awareness among the local community, we always exhibit at the Nagoya Works area as the "Sumitomo Heavy Industries Group." In addition to exhibiting panels and models, we also prepare capsule boxes and target shooting games for children, which everyone can enjoy.
The Sumitomo NACCO Group, which operates value chains and supply chains globally, believes that thorough business ethics and compliance are essential for the sustainable growth of its business. In addition to the Compliance Manual and Code of Ethics, we are working to further enforce corporate ethics based on the Sumitomo Heavy Industries Group's legal compliance policy.
The Sumitomo NACCO Group requires its executives and employees to thoroughly comply with laws, regulations, and corporate ethics, and to always act with a high level of common sense. This committee identifies, analyzes and evaluates risks, and plans countermeasures from a company-wide perspective, while also monitoring the status of risk management. The Internal Control Department also reports the progress and monitoring results to the Board of Directors.
